Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter Partners in Nonpartisan Community Voter Outreach Initiative

On August 9, 2026, the Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. partnered with the Fort Wayne Area League of Women Voters, the Fort Wayne Urban League, and other local community organizations for a Nonpartisan Community Voter Outreach & Listening Canvass.
This collaborative initiative focused on strengthening civic engagement, providing reliable voting information, and better understanding the challenges that may prevent Allen County residents from participating in elections.
Connecting with the Community
Volunteer teams departed from the Fort Wayne Urban League and visited surrounding neighborhoods to engage directly with residents.
Rather than advocating for candidates or political parties, volunteers listened to community members, discussed voting experiences, and shared nonpartisan election resources.
Conversations focused on potential barriers to voter participation, including access to voting locations, transportation, election information, and awareness of registration requirements.

Understanding Voter Participation
According to the Allen County Election Board, only 14.57% of registered voters participated in the May 2026 primary election.
This turnout highlighted the importance of understanding the challenges residents face and identifying opportunities to improve access to election information.
During the outreach effort, volunteers shared resources such as VOTE411.org, information about Allen County Vote Centers, and guidance on checking or updating voter registration.
Feedback gathered through the canvass was intended to help participating organizations evaluate outreach efforts and better understand barriers to civic participation.
Advancing Political Awareness and Involvement
The initiative reflects the Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter's continued commitment to Political Awareness and Involvement, one of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.'s Five-Point Programmatic Thrusts.
Through collaboration, education, and community outreach, the chapter continues to promote informed civic participation and provide opportunities for meaningful engagement.
The Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter remains committed to serving our community by supporting voter education, civic awareness, and nonpartisan engagement.
